The Company

Bien-Air opened its US branch in 1979, 20 years after it was founded in Switzerland by David Mosimann, a Swiss watchmaker.

Originally based in New York, the US branch was initially created to service repair needs for the US market, but slowly, the branch began to grow. Focusing on the development of electric handpieces for the US market, Bien-Air delivered the first table top console for high-speed use. From there, more than 42 US dental schools and tens of thousands of US practicing dentists now use Bien-Air electric handpieces exclusively. For the past 25 years, the US office has been managed by Arthur Mateen.

“Quality” often times is a platitude in the form of a stamp on a box, or word on an advertisement. In Switzerland, it is more than that. It is a fundamental component of the culture. Since the Middle Ages, the Swiss economy has developed, innovated and sustained itself from its mechanical devices—watches and clocks. The culture thrives on the world-renowned trust in products that are “Swiss Made,” an identity synonymous with the highest standards of quality control. Mosimann brought that culture and quality into dentistry.

Today, the US branch is charged with carrying through that commitment of delivering the highest level of excellence when it comes to not only quality products, but service and support.
